words There was an announced 6 hour time limit with the disclaimer that
if you took longer, you could move to sidewalks. At my pace, the police
were patrolling with megaphones telling us to do that. However, the cones
were still in place, so I ignored the police and got away with it. The
race was point to point, strong wind in your face almost the whole time.
That weather is usual for this race. I thought the race course was boring,
but what can you expect from a desert course? The water stations beyond
mile 18 or so, had been abandoned, sandy water in cups on the ground (hard
to bend down or over at that point in the race for us ancient cripples).
We stayed in the Gold Strike Hotel at the race start. Rooms were good
hotel rooms, $50 on Saturday, $20 the other nights. 9. Pasta
